SolidFish is built around four connected ideas. Privacy: sharing useful information should not automatically mean sharing more of your identity or creating another account relationship. Security: when the shared item is a link, giving the recipient destination information and a preview where available can encourage a safer pause before the click. Fleeting data: a document, image, note or link may only matter for a task or moment, so the sender should be able to give it an intentional lifetime. Environmental responsibility: digital storage depends on physical infrastructure, and while one expiring share has only a tiny effect, avoiding unnecessary copies and indefinite retention is still a worthwhile habit — every little helps. SolidFish brings those ideas together through memorable Solid Codes, separated access and management credentials, previews, one-time access and chosen expiry.

SolidFish has evolved since this article was first published, but the core beliefs remain the same: reduce unnecessary identity exchange, encourage safer sharing habits, give fleeting data an intentional lifetime, and leave less unnecessary data behind. A Solid Code is a public locator for a share; optional recipient access controls and a separate management key can be used when needed. Link previews can provide an extra inspection step before visiting a destination, but they are not a guarantee of safety. Shares have an explicit expiry, and recipient access also ends after deletion or a completed one-time claim.
